If the Bible is our text for knowing the history of our spirituality, we must acknowledge it is incomplete. Missing are the stories of slaves, women, children, those who were defeated in battle, and those whose existence was not fully understood, such as transgender people.

It is entirely possible to be wealthy and not exploit others. It just seems so incredibly rare

Is God violent? Some ancient texts seem to indicate the answer is yes. But I know deep in my bones that this isn’t true.

To consider enslaved people and other groups in a particular text, it sometimes takes a little imagination.

Can we imagine God as playful?
