A place for the important questions

A final gift for 2025

I know 2025 has been a year for a lot of people. We have all felt so much pressure from things beyond our control, and many of us are happy to see this year nearing its end.

We have certainly felt the stress here at Harbor. Wherever we live, we are facing the effects of the growing Christian Nationalism and white supremacy all over the world. Food inflation and lack of housing has caused enormous financial stress, and many of us are dealing with job loss or inability to find good, safe work.

It is times like this that faith can seem either completely superfluous or more necessary than ever. On the one hand, who has time or energy for what we cannot see when there is so much to deal with right in front of our faces? On the other hand, how can we even look at what is in front of us without something unseeable and unknowable in which to have hope?

Neither of these questions is wrong, and they aren’t necessarily opposed to each other. I ask myself these questions, and many more, every day. I bet you do, too. As our conversations and society’s ideas become more and more polarized and entrenched, I am so grateful for the people I can ask questions with, who will sit with me in uncertainty without forcing answers and encourage me to dig deep into the questions I may prefer to avoid.

That is what Harbor has become for me and so many others. Harbor is a space where we care for one another and focus on building a sense of belonging so that these questions can breathe and grow.

We are also committed to community care for one another and the communities in which we live. All around the US, Canada, and around the world, we meet across time zones to share our burdens and even offer mutual aid and support.

The final days of 2025 are upon us, and we know that life is really expensive right now. We value and treasure every gift we receive in any amount or frequency. If you are in a position to consider your giving, we hope you will consider us as we continue our work in helping build resilient spiritual lives that can work through the questions that will result in creating a better world.
